Welcome from the New Co-Presidents:

Dear members of the WCN,
After two years of breathtaking changes at the WCN Vienna with Brenda and Tasha, we are excited to take over the challenging task to lead you into the next chapter of the WCN! Therefore we would like to introduce ourselves as the new WCN Co-Presidents starting from May 2008 onwards until the end of 2009.
Christina has been a WCN member since 2002 and served as event coordinator with Mariska Praktiek for two years, recalling the “Third Man Tour” as one of the highlights. In her professional life she focuses on International Marketing, Business Development and Sales and has been working for companies in Germany and Austria, building up markets in Europe, Russia, China, etc. Active also in other networks, she is a “fighter” for woman issues and eager to combine work and family life. She moved to Vienna ten years ago and is married with two young children.
Ursula joined the WCN last autumn and was immediately fascinated. Currently a consultant for environment, development and European affairs, she has pursued an international career including assignments with the UN, the OECD, the European Commission and lately the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She is very interested in gender issues and the advancement of women and - like Christina - seeking the right balance between career and family life. Having lived in Kenya, Mexico, France and Belgium, she returned to Vienna in 2006. She is married and has two children.
It is both an honour and a pleasure for us to be your Co-Presidents and we are both very motivated to create the upcoming years as exciting, informative and enjoyable for you as possible. Nevertheless, we are very much aware that a network needs active participation from its members in order to be fruitful and a stepping-stone for your career! Hence, we very much welcome your continuous participation, your ideas, comments and criticism – if necessary – to make the most out of the WCN as our NETWORK really makes a difference to your career development!
Our goals and priorities for the years to come
First of all, we believe that we should try to keep our network as lively and professional as possible. This includes amongst others an up-to date members directory! Here we gladly appreciate your input. A special plea to those who did not put the short bio or photograph, etc. onto the web: Please do so as quickly as possible to facilitate effective networking!
Secondly, we intend to intensify our network and the networking activities. Again, we invite all of you to contribute to the enhancement of our methods and to make our success be based on a participatory approach!
Thirdly, we would like to focus on a strengthened cooperation with other women’s career networks and other career oriented partners in order to take advantage of synergies and exchange experiences and best practices.
Our Vision for the Women's Career Network Vienna (WCN)
The WCN is the women's network that each and every professional woman in Austria strives to belong to due to its effective and wide-reaching international networking channels, its commitment to career development and self-improvement now and with a view to the future and the opportunity to be part of an exciting, dynamic and ever-growing international community.
Together we are strong and together we can really make things happen. You, as a WCN member, are our most important asset. You are the intrinsic link between the vision remaining just a vision and making the vision a reality.
We have an exciting time ahead of us and we are very optimistic that we will continue to be a successful career network. We kindly invite you to join us on this fascinating journey and to be present at one of our next upcoming General Meetings!
Looking forward to meeting you then!
Christina Thomar & Ursula Vavrik
Co-Presidents WCN Vienna 2008-2009
